Ascain is a commune in the Pyrénées-Alantiques département, which belongs to the urban area of Bayonne. It stands on the last peak of the Pyrenees, 6 kilometres from the Atlantic coast. It then stretches along the river Nivelle. With three "flowers" won in France's last contest for "Flower-filled Towns and Villages", the commune takes an active interest in problems relating to the environment.
