A well-known seaside resort in south-western France, Arcachon made its mark in the 19th century when it launched the fashion for bathing in the sea. The Pereire brothers were the first to invest in the site and transform its architectural landscape. They built lovely oceanfront villas, hotels and the casino. From then on, keen on bountiful nature and the heady blend of fragrances from the pinewoods and Atlantic Ocean, members of Europe's middle-class came to stay in the resort on a regular basis. This enthusiasm for the Bassin d'Arcachon is still evident today, especially among people from Bordeaux and the Parisian region, but also Russians, Germans and even Chinese, in search of of authenticity - and fond of oysters !
Nicknamed "the town of four seasons", Arcachon can lay claim to a property market ensuring sound investments. Many requests are for holiday homes, small or large "Arcachonnaises" with gardens, in the "Ville d'Hiver", "Ville de Printemps" or "Ville d'Automne". Being close to shops and the beaches is an important factor in the selection process around the Bassin. The Moulleau area with its sumptuous seafront villas is the favourite address, though it now competes with its neighbour, Pyla-sur-Mer, which also boasts some very fine properties.
