A commune lying at the foot of Les Baux-de-Provence, Paradou is on the mountain chain of the Alpilles. It belongs to the "Community of Communes" of the Vallée des Baux. Paradou owes its name to the mills once used by weavers on the banks of the river Arcoule. Its economy still largely focuses on agriculture, mostly wine and olive production. Tourism also plays an important part, drawing visitors in search of history, relaxation and nature. They are pleased to find here a riding centre, sports facilities, golf-courses and hiking paths. Since 2010, Paradou has hosted "Harmonies d'Arménie", a festival paying tribute to Armenian music and dance. The first edition was fortunate enough to welcome Charles Aznavour. This pretty commune also offers some fine old monuments, such as the tomb of Charloun Rieu, La Petite Provence, Saint-Martin's Church, and the towers of Castillon.
