A neighbourhood next to Antibes, on the Mediterranean shore, Juan-les-Pins is one of the must addresses on the Côte d'Azur. In the Roaring 'Twenties, many Americans, including F. Scott Fitzgerald and the tycoon Frank Jay Gould, adopted the enchanting life-style in this little resort. Frank Jay Gould was, in fact, the town's most iconic fan. The seaside resort owes him a large part of its development and amenities, and consequently, its success. In summer, Juan-les-Pins is invaded by holiday-makers, and it tries to remain lively throughout the year. The recent construction of the "Palais des Congrès" to accommodate large-scale events is a good example of this new goal.
Hardly surprising that the number of year-round residences has equalled that of holiday homes. The clientele is very mixed : families, French and local retirees, and foreigners (many from Italy) all fall for Juan-les-Pins. They especially appreciate being close to shops, amenities and the beaches. The Chemin des Sables, between La Pinède and L'Ilette, is the most highly-coveted neighbourhood.
