Once a working-class neighbourhood, the 13th arrondissement of Paris is now mainly known for its Asian community, and the installation of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France - François-Mittérand here in the 1990's. Very different neighbourhoods in Paris 13th

The 13th arrondissement can be split into five main neighbourhoods : that of La Butte-aux-Cailles where one still finds early 20th-century working-class homes, that of the station with the Asian quarter, and the southern part of Paris Rive Gauche, that of the Faubourg Saint-Marcel which underwent a metamorphosis after extensive work initiated by Baron Haussmann, and is now one of the most expensive areas in this arrondissement, Paris Rive Gauche itself, hosting among other things the National Library and the New Latin Quarter. Overall, one can expect to pay on average 8,695 € per sqm for a house in the 13th.
