Ciboure is a very charming seaside resort in the Aquitaine region in the département of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. Between the ocean and the mountains, it is surrounded by very pleasant natural scenery. It is also known for its gastronomy, including its famous "ttorro", a traditional soup not to be missed. As for sport, the town offers a good array of nautical activities and a century-old 18-hole golf-course. Economically, Ciboure is seen as one of the region's most go-ahead communes. The takeover of the old canning factories by new generations is a strong symbol, proving that the town is looking to the future. A secondary school devoted to the sea was also inaugurated in 1996.
Even though the spotlight often falls on its neighbour, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Ciboure is not lacking in assets to keep apace. Its architectural heritage features little gems such as the Maison Ravel, Tour Bordegain and Villa Leihorra. There is an eclectic choice of apartments : one finds them in old buildings as well as modern gated residences. Some early 20th-C. buildings have been rehabilitated to provide spacious apartments. The most highly-prized properties are naturally those enjoying views of the ocean.
