Laid out along the banks of the Loire, Nantes won the "European Green Capital" award in 2013. And while the city stands out for its high-quality living conditions, it is also one of France's most important economic hubs. Thanks to the commitment of local entrepreneurs and the rising number of new start-ups, it is one of the nine French towns to have received the "French Tech" label. Buying a house in Nantes thus means opting for a city with an environment both pleasant and go-ahead. The capital of Loire-Atlantique is, in fact, the site of large-scale plans for urban renovation, as is also the case for the Island of Nantes and Malakoff-Pré-Gauchet.
The architectural heritage of Nantes is comprised of private mansions, Haussmann buildings and bourgeois residences. In the historic centre, the neighbourhoods of Mellinet, La Butte Sainte-Anne and Canciaux with their family homes, mostly built in the 19th century, continue to find favour with the local middle class. The neighbourhoods of Sainte-Thérèse and Saint-Pasquier also propose small bourgeois houses, often renovated, meeting the needs of well-off buyers. Finally, it is possible to acquire a house in Nantes on the banks of the River Erdre : so-called "Nantaise" villas and certain properties of real charm benefit here from idyllic scenery.
