In the département of Les Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, the commune of Fontvieille offers a very pleasant and authentic setting. It stands on the Massif des Alpilles, north of La Crau. Traditionally an agricultural community, Fontvieille still leaves lots of room for this activity. Its entire terrritory is in fact classified as AOC ("Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée"), with its wines bearing the Coteaux-des-Baux-de-Provence label (75% red, 25% rosé). This "appellation" is attributed to only seven communes in the Alpilles. Olives produced in Fontvieille are also widely appreciated.
