Château de Monthenault - Chemin des Dames
In the heart of the Chemin des Dames, the castle suffered during WWI, but afterwards the owners called on the architect Albert Paul Müller (1889-1965, who worked extensively in the region) to rebuild it using modern construction techniques. The castle was built of fire-resistant reinforced concrete, a method he also applied to the floors. The cornice under the roof is original in its height as well as in its vertical striations. The railings are of Art Deco inspiration. Inside the castle, the decor is more classical but the large stairwell, very well lit by stained glass windows created by the master glass artist Louis Barillet, gives a more contemporary spirit. There is a great diversity in the chateau with large rooms for daily living and receptions. The castle has 13 rooms. Recently, a fully equipped top floor apartment has been added, providing useful independence for a family or household staff. The property consists of the chateau, the independent side building of 55sqm of living space (in which there are two flats and various rooms used as cellars and garages) and a third building in the centre of the park, a hard swimming pool with a retractable roof completely immersed in the greenery of a park of 1,4 ha. This beautiful residence benefits from a soothing atmosphere offered by the walls of the park which guarantee absolute privacy and tranquillity. Energy rating: DPE: E // GES: E Transaction fees all taxes included to be paid by the seller. This castle is located in the Hauts-de-France region, in the centre of the Aisne department, between the Ailette and Lardon valleys. It was seized as a national asset during the French Revolution and then passed into private ownership until the Second World War, when the castle remained under German occupation throughout the conflict.
