Pyla-sur-Mer, a well-preserved address

Renowned worldwide for its sand dune, the highest in Europe, Pyla-sur-Mer is a charming seaside resort at the entrance to the Bassin d’Arcachon on the Atlantic coast.

Offering rare architectural harmony and opening out to protected, natural horizons, Pyla-sur-Mer lies 65 km south-west of Bordeaux. On the territory of La Teste-de-Buch, this seaside resort was created at the start of the First World War by an entrepreneur, Daniel Meller, and was called “Pyla” in reference to the famous dune spelt “Pilat”, meaning “mountain” in the Gascon language.

Striving for well-controlled town planning, preserving the forest of Les Landes, the commune is comprised of several seaside neighbourhoods and beaches succeeding each other over more than 10 kilometres. A holiday destination for personalities since the 1930’s, Pyla-sur-Mer remains a “lifestyle” address with high-end hotels such as Le Ha(a)ïtza designed by Philippe Starck, and the 5-star La Co(o)rniche, also bearing the renowned designer’s signature.

“In Pyla-sur-Mer, the property market is still lively and well-balanced,”

says Jean Anselyn, Manager of the teams in four Barnes Bassin d’Arcachon agencies, the most recent inaugurated last August on the Place du Marché in Cap Ferret.

In Pyla-sur-Mer, the Barnes agency has just orchestrated the sale of an exceptional property on the front row, priced at 12 million euros. So who are Barnes’ clients focusing on Pyla-sur-Mer ? “Eighty per cent of them are French company directors and ex-pats from large cities in Europe, preparing for their return to France. Very serious, they are motivated by a real desire to acquire a house they increasingly use as their semi-main residence.” The real estate market in Pyla-sur-Mer offers only a few prestigious residences such as L’Ermitage Saint-Jean, on the ocean front between Pyla and Le Moulleau. It is therefore mainly comprised of detached houses starting from 1.5 million euros.

“The most sought-after are on the front row, enjoying views of the bay, very close to the beaches and shops and, above all, enthroned at the heart of a peaceful environment,”

explains Jean Anselyn, who also announces the creation of a department dedicated to seasonal rentals and conciergerie services. “Whether they are investors looking for good rental returns or typical owners targeting second homes, our clients are increasingly intent on obtaining services such as caretaking, maintenance and all-round management of seasonal rentals. These activities require a team of professionals, they comprise a line of work in its own right that we are henceforth pleased to propose with a dedicated team.”
