Lourmarin, an absolute must in the Luberon

In the Nature Park of the Luberon, between Avignon and Forcalquier, Lourmarin is one of France’s most beautiful villages. Nestling in the midst of vines, olive and almond trees, it offers a truly enchanting setting.

Residents of Lourmarin like to remind visitors that Albert Camus, winner of the Nobel Prize for literature, lived and wrote here. He in fact rests in peace in the village cemetery. Lively in summer, Lourmarin offers a lifestyle of delightful quality in all four seasons with its boutiques, cafés and restaurants open year-round.

A flagship village in the Luberon, Lourmarin boasts a 15th/16th-century castle, part of which, in Renaissance style, is open to the public. Offering typically Mediterranean architecture - old houses with facades restored with local materials, narrow winding streets, shaded little squares... - the heart of the village proposes an enticing atmosphere for fans of the Provençal spirit. Around the village, majestic properties are discreetly hidden in luxuriant parks and Mediterranean gardens. Based in Provence since 2018, and in Lourmarin since 2020, the Daniel Féau Provence agency proposes prestige properties all over the Luberon and Les Alpilles.

Orchestrating many transactions for second residences for a clientele comprised 60 % of French buyers and 40 % of foreigners from northern Europe, Great Britain and the USA, this agency with a team of seven multilingual members is located at 4 rue du Grand Pré in Lourmarin. “In our sector, the upper end of the market is characterized by offerings that are now limited and demand that is still steady, especially since the pandemic,” says agency manager Magali Boulogne. “We frequently sell properties in just a few days, without even posting them on our website. Whether in the Alpilles or the Luberon, our clients are looking for a “mas” of character, built of stone, offering quality renovation and high-spec appointments, such as a former silkworm farm, recently renovated, that we propose as sole agents at 1,380,000 €. Offering living space of 200 m² in grounds of 4,000 m², it is on the periphery of Lourmarin.

The village is seen as an esthetic address, prized for its charm, its easy access and liveliness, as it is a commune with year-round shops, amenities and cultural activities.” As an example of her properties representing the market, Magali Boulogne mentions a spacious property of 250 m² in “bastide” style, in 3.46 acres of grounds with a pool, in the country. Close to Lourmarin, it has just been acquired by a French-American couple for close on 3 million euros.

“We have just introduced a service dedicated to rental management to offer a complementary convenience to our owner-clients and buyers acquiring second residences.” Magali Boulogne’s advice is to take rapid action as soon as a property meets your requirements. Fine opportunities are now rare.
