A simulation performed by Cafpi, a firm specializing in mortgage brokerage directed by Philippe Taboret, shows that a borrower who obtained a 200,000 € mortgage in October 2008 at 5.4 % over 20 years could, as long as he retained the same amount of his monthly repayment, gain 32,358 € on the overall cost by repurchasing his loan. If he intended to reduce the monthly repayment, he would still be able to save 25,455 €.
