'Mas Mamola' by Andreï Svetchine
Erected in 1953 in Saint-Paul-de-Vence by the architect of Russian origin Andreï Svetchine, this 280 m2 limestone villa preserved 'in its own juice' seems to play with Mediterranean codes, located on a plot of 2600 m² embellished with citrus, olive and bougainvillea inviting as much to contemplation as to stroll. Made famous by its constructions of villas (notably those of Marc Chagall in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and Saint-Paul-de-Vence), of the Fernand Léger museum in Biot, and by its restorations of Riviera institutions (the Church Orthodox of Nice, the Auberge de La Colombe d'Or), the architect in this 'Mas Mamola' fashioned Moorish terracotta mosaics, exhibited the frame in oak beams, thought and laid out the terraced gardens planted with Mediterranean essences, the swimming pool bordered by a half-timbered railing, summer kitchen, pool house, Japanese pools and sauna complete the exterior of this atypical farmhouse. The living room recreates the atmosphere of a stately home, adopting the language of warlike masculinity: logis fireplace (carved wooden lintel, convex jambs in granite), vaults and master tapestries. In the kitchen and the master suite, the rounded lines and soft tones bring softness and a feminine touch. These astonishing biases mixing styles, times and spaces seem to question the inhabitants as well as the visitors. Once past the studded solid oak door, a few steps lead to the living room adjoining a separate kitchen. To the left of the front door, the corridor leads to an office and a master bedroom adjoining its bathroom, as well as a black marble shower room. A staircase leads to the lower level which includes a second suite, a secure wine cellar, and a bedroom with an independent entrance door also opening onto a terrace and the garden. Close to the historic center of Saint-Paul-de-Vence and the Maeght Foundation. Contact: Jonathan: 07 63 79 67 23
